The scheme is only for consultants, who are in charge of conventional safety methods, and does not cover issues related to occupational hazards. It is however, not a compulsory scheme. The members will have to pay a fee to cover administrative expenditure. The register will be openly accessible to all through a website. It has received a positive response from safety experts and companies.
IOSH is one of the safety groups, which actively participated in the project. Its Chief Executive, Rob Strange, stressed on its necessity and supported Lord Young’s view that the incompetent safety experts had brought stagnancy in the system. He also felt that such a trend is dangerous for the safety of workers.
The experts will play a positive role in improving the conditions at workplace, and this is going to benefit both big as well as small companies. It will remove the flaws in healthy and safety initiatives by bringing qualified, knowledgeable, and efficient safety consultants. Employers requiring support on safety issues do not have to search for them anymore. Overall, it will build trust between workers and safety consultants.
