This constantly changing aspect that makes poker so interesting also makes it difficult to form a concrete poker strategy. Some strategies work flawlessly in some situations, while they’ll fail miserably in others. While many things affect which strategies to apply, here are a few of the major game-changers.
The community cards. How do the cards on the table affect your hand? Do you have a chance of winning the hand at showdown? If you have a good hand, is there a chance that someone has a better one?
Your opponents’ playing styles. Are your opponents aggressive or passive? Tight or loose? Easily read or deceptive? How your opponents play the game should be a huge part of how you strategize.
Your betting position. Are you one of the first to act or one of the last? Who is acting before and after you? Know whether or not you are in a strong betting position before you make a move.
Your stack size. Can you put your opponents all-in? Are you in danger of blinding out? Know how your stack relates to your opponents’ stacks.
Pot size. Is the pot worth taking a risk on? Is it worth buying? Will your opponents be more or less likely to call a bet based on how big the stack is?
